Como Park Bluebird Trail Update: May 15th, 2015

Post contributed by Sharon, volunteer bluebird trail monitor:
Chickadee eggs

Week-old bluebirds
There are at least 15 and up to 17 bluebird nestlings on the trail today. The nest that had seven white bluebird eggs in it now contains a heap of bluebirds, out of which five could definitely be counted. One new bluebird nest is under construction.

Chickadees laid seven little speckled white eggs in their box.

Recently hatched bluebirds
And tree swallows have arrived. One has chosen the unused bluebird nest constructed earlier in the season. It has added some feathers to the nest. Another has begun a nest in the box where the bluebird nest disappeared last week.

I am thwarting house sparrow nesting attempts in two boxes, and two more remain empty.
